Right at the beginning, you walk through the main Park in Bad Peterstal before the Himmelssteig trail leads steadily uphill, until you catch a first glimpse of the lake Glaswaldsee. If you allow enough time, you can make a stop by the lake and enjoy the piece and quiet at the “blue eye” of the middle black forest. Only a few kilometres further, the Griesbach Genussplatz on the Teufelskanzelsteig invites you to take a break with a fantastic view and cool drinks. At an altitude of over 900 metres, you hike past dense ferns and sparse mixed forests, accompanied by views into the valley and great vantage points. The first stage ends at the Alexanderschanze and the National Park bus takes the hikers back to the village.

The second stage begins by leading you to the Zuflucht Nature and Sports Hotel. How about a coffee break here? On wide forest paths you walk on a gentle downhill. Continue along the Wiesensteig, past the rustic Renchtalhütte, the trail runs along root paths to the Martinshof with the Regiomat, a vending machine for the local delicacies. For a short distance, you cross the road past Hotel Breitenberg and the fallow deer enclosure before entering the forest again. Not far and the trail reaches the Schwarzwaldsteig at Holderstanzenhof. The Peterstaler mineral water station invites you to take another relaxing break before the trail continues steadily downhill. Again and again, the view sweeps down to Bad Peterstal and the surrounding hills. Beech trees and chestnuts accompany the path back to the starting point at Bad Peterstal station.
