From the Traun Valley, the path, which mainly leads over narrow paths in the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park, climbs steadily. First we pass the high moor "Ochsenbruch" and the legendary "Siegfried Quelle" (Nibelungen legend). After 8 km we reach the summit of the “Erbeskopf”, the highest elevation in Rhineland-Palatinate at 816 m. From the impressive "Windklangskulptur" we can enjoy an impressive view. Now the descent to the Hunsrückhaus begins.
After the long and strenuous ascent from Börfink, we can split the stage and let the hosts pick us up at the Hunsrückhaus pick-up point in Thalfang.
On the further way through the wooded region we pass under the first viaduct of the Hunsrück Railway. A varied cultural landscape begins shortly before the village of Morscheid. Another highlight is the imposing Hunsrück Railway Viaduct near Hoxel. This is one of the tallest stone single-storey railway bridges in Germany. An interesting route allows us to experience the impressive structure from different angles. At the end of the stage we reach the local recreation area "Ortelsbruch".
We hike this low mountain slope moor over footbridges and discover a unique flora and fauna. After about 1.5 km we arrive at the stage town of Morbach.

Safety information

The Saar-Hunsrück-Steig is a nature trail, 65% of which is over soft forest floor, over grass paths or along streams. This special quality can make parts of the path more difficult to walk after long periods of rain. Therefore, sturdy shoes are strongly recommended.
