Mosel Cycle Path Section 8: From Bullay to Cochem
Meet Europe's steepest vineyard and the “sleeping beauty” of the Moselle.
easy
Distance 31.5 km
The eighth section of the Moselle Cycle Route starts at the historic railway bridge in Bullay and leads along the left bank of the Moselle to Cochem. The wine-producing village of Bremm, with its narrow winding streets, is located at the foot of the Calmont and is reached via Alf and St. Aldegund. Anyone ready to take on the challenge of the steepest vineyard in Europe by means of the Calmont fixed rope route is rewarded by the most beautiful views of the Moselle Valley at the hilltop cross. The cycle tour continues through the idyllic wine-producing villages of Ediger-Eller, Nehren and Senhals to Ellenz-Poltersdorf. Here, there is the option to take a ferry to the other side of the river to visit Beilstein, the Moselle’s “Sleeping Beauty”, with its winding narrow lanes and its famous backdrop of traditional half-timbered buildings. Back on the left bank of the river, the route runs through Ernst and onto Cochem, the destination for this part of the tour. The picturesque little town is perfect for rounding off the day in. Winding, narrow lanes lead to the market place with its old gabled houses, market fountain and a Baroque style town hall. The vibrant Moselle promenade offers the opportunity to wonder between wine taverns and cafés. The imposing 11th century Reichsburg Castle dominates the town's landscape from almost every perspective and is most definitely worth a visit.
