Beautiful views over the upper Rench-vally from the top of the Tower, delightful meadow paths and a gorgeous view on the Kreuzkopfschanze- this hiking trail has a lot to offer.

The Haberer tower was built in 1899 in honor of the benefactor of the so called Renchtalbäder, Dr. Albert Haberer. At its top you have a beautiful view on Bad Griesbach as well as the surrounding mountains. The village of Bad Griesbach itself has many opportunities for refreshment after the hike. The tour is also family friendly. The tower invites you to explore. On the diverse 6 kilometer long tour you also pass a tiny playground for kids.

Author’s recommendation

Easy route: Start directly at the parking lot of the „Kreuzkopfschanze“ and follow the signs leading to the Haberer tower, this way you can skip the steep part of the route.

Journey: Driving from Freudenstadt you turn left, right at the beginning of Bad Griesbach following the signs saying “Kreuzkopfschanze”. Coming from the direction of Offenburg turn right instead of left, at the end of Bad Griesbach.

Bad Griesbach Train Station

Turn-by-turn directions

Starting at the train station in Bad Griesbach, we turn right onto the road called “Ackerköpfle”, towards the water treading spot “Emmersbächle”. Right after passing it, we make a sharp left turn and then make a right turn at the next intersection. We follow the yellow rhombus to the location “Emmersbach”. Now we make a left turn and follow the signs leading to the Harberer Tower. After going up on tower, we follow the same route back to the intersection. This time we turn left and follow the yellow rhombus to the location “Turmwald”. We turn left onto a wide forest road that takes us back onto the parking lot next to the ski jumping hill.

Now we walk along the paved road for a little while until we reach a grass path on our left. We follow this path until we reach a small wooden cabin. We turn left onto another grass path and follow it past the playground to the St. Antonius chapel. Once we reach the chapel we keep right and walk along the gravel path back of the St. Anna medical center back down to the main road and follow it to the “Häfner´s Flair Hotel Adlerbad”. Walking along the gravel footpath above the Hotel we pass the St. Antonius church and get back to our starting point.
