Challenging and multi-faceted trail in varied terrain with ascents and descents, where a sure footing is required. Along the way, hikers will find interesting information about the namesakes of the trail: copper and jasper.

On mostly earthy, natural paths through shady forests and open meadow landscape, there is interesting information about the namesakes of the trail: copper and jasper. Even today, there are red, yellow and green jasper sites hidden along the way. After a longer section of forest, the view turns to the Hunsrückland. Above Hintertiefenbach - also known as powder hole - a plaque informs you that rare orchids grow here.

In the Fischbach Valley, the hiking trail runs in the forest in a wide bend around Fischbach towards the copper mine (access road 800). The “dream loop” and the “little dream loop” “Fischbach copper traces” run along the same trail for a longer stretch. Here you will find information about copper and mining. Then we enter the Hosenbachtal Valley. Between 1851 - 1855, six agate loops are proven to have been erected on the Hosenbach stream.

In 2013, the hiking trail won 2nd place in the vote for “Germany's most beautiful hiking trail”.

Our tips for carefree hiking fun

Hiking is the perfect sport. With the right clothes and shoes, it's twice as much fun. Functional clothing, poles and breathable backpacks are good choices when hiking. But good footwear is indispensable. Sturdy jogging or leisure shoes are at best only suitable for short distances on flat paths. For longer walks, we recommend sturdy hiking boots with non-slip soles. Also remember to take sunscreen and a drink. A litre of water is best.

Turn-by-turn directions

Route description from Niederwörresbach, walking direction counter-clockwise:

We start at the hikers’ car park in Niederwörresbach. Through the wooden entrance portal we go onto a bridge on which we cross the stream. On the first section of the trail, we first hike uphill until we are rewarded after about 2 km with two impressive viewpoints and a sensory bench. With the information boards, we also learn here more about jasper, which is found in the region and whose mining was at times the economic basis of the Niederwörresbach grinding mills.

We continue downhill. We reach the refuge in the “Wahlenbach” stream. A longer ascent follows, we walk past the local community of Gerach and cross the K34. After a few metres, at kilometre 5.5, there is a viewpoint with a sensory bench that invites you to let your gaze wander. For the next 2 km, the trail leads downhill, past two more viewpoints and an orchid meadow. After further ascents and descents, we reach the village of Hintertiefenbach (also called the “powder hole”) - so far we have covered around 9 km.

Then we cross another entrance portal and first walk uphill through the forest before the descent to Fischbach begins. We cross the L160 and reach Fischbach. At a height of around 240 m, this is the lowest point of the Copper-Jasper-Trail. We continue uphill now. We come to a refuge and continue along the path, which is now partly on the “mining circular trail”. We learn more about copper along the way. Downhill we finally reach an impressive waterfall. From here we have the possibility to visit the copper mine, which is about 800 m away, on an access road. On the main trail, it now goes uphill again, interspersed with a few descents. Before we walk the last kilometre back downhill to Niederwörresbach, we can once again enjoy the impressive landscape at two vantage points. Back at our starting point in Niederwörresbach, refreshment stops invite you to round off the day’s hike in comfort.

(reine Gehzeit) geschafft. Start in Niederwörresbach hinter der Mehrzweckhalle.
